A recap of the HackInSchool conference: around 140 high-school students, a full day of cybersecurity, and a Jeopardy CTF.
I’m thrilled to share an update on our HackInSchool conference, held on March 21st at the Department of Informatics (DIB), University of Bari. The event was made possible by the collaboration of Mntcrl Lab (UniBA’s cybersecurity team) and the enthusiastic participation of multiple high schools, totaling around 140 attendees.
The event had two phases: an educational session covering several cybersecurity domains (Web Security, Cryptography, Digital Forensics, Network Security, OSINT, and more), followed by a Jeopardy-style Capture The Flag, where students in teams of up to four applied what they had just learned.
I had the honor of presenting a segment on digital forensics, introducing steganography (particularly in images and audio files) and the techniques to uncover hidden data within them. As presenters, we also designed the challenges for the competition, which deepened my own grasp of the techniques and let me understand steganography’s role in digital forensics far more thoroughly.
The competition closed with these schools on the podium:

- 2nd and 3rd: G. Marconi / M. Hack (Bari)
